Academy FAQ

  • What is ACADEMY soccer?

Think of this program as "more" soccer.  It is the opportunity to get more games, more training, more touches on the ball, better soccer challenges in games, and better skills.  Academy players can move around, play on many teams, and have fun.  You are encouraged to play on both a recreational team and an academy team to get the most games and have the most fun.  Academy teams have dynamic rosters, so a group might play the first week and then change things around a bit for the second week.  Rosters are limited to 14 players, but the player list can change as needed or desired based on number of participants in the Academy program.

  • Who can be part of Academy soccer?

Any one from U7-U10 can play in Academy soccer.  Once you reach the U11 age group, by birth year, you must choose between recreational soccer and competitive soccer, and can no longer play both.

  • Can I attend open practice sessions and tryouts?

Yes, you are encouraged to participate in the June open practice sessions; this will help us see how many players are interested for this coming fall and will give you MORE soccer over some of the summer months.  Depending on interest, we may schedule some in July and Augst as well; will depend on participation and availabilty.  ACADEMY players DO NOT attend TRYOUTS; these are only required for U11+ age group teams.

  • How do I play in Mutiny FC Academy?

All you have to do is register for Mutiny FC Academy as well as your recreational soccer team.  Hopefully, this will be an option on the fall registration process (we are working on it).

  • What do I get for my registration feesfor one season?
Your registration will cover all of the following items:  NTSSA fees, PAL League fees, referee fees for season, two team uniforms, a Mutiny FC ball for each player,  one tournament per team, coaching education costs, and WYSA administration costs.  It will also cover 10 weeks of Soccer Magic Skills as part of our player development program.  Unless a team chooses to do more tournaments or play indoor during the offseason, your only other costs should be shoes, shin-guards, and a water bottle.

You will also receive an iron-on "M" patch to put on your recreational team jersey.

NOTE:  If you want to participate in the "advanced" soccer camp session for Mutiny FC competitive players, you can register separately for this as an academy player (this is not included in your registration fees).
  • How are teams formed?

Teams will be formed by age group and will be based upon how many participants we have.  U9-U10 teams will play in PAL; we are still invetigating options for the younger kids.  An attempt will be made to keep kids together throughout the season, keep in mind that Academy allows players free movement across all clubs and venues.  We may pick up some guest players and we may lose a few to other options throughout the season.

  • If I want the extra skills and practice, but only want to play on my rec-team?

Yes, if you want to come to Soccer Magic skill sessions and did not register for Academy, you will pay an addition $75 per season to participate.  If you want to come to the weekly academy soccer practice sessions, it will be an additional $5 per session attended.

  • Where will we play our games?
Your recreational games will be played at Founders Park in Wylie as normal (mostly on Saturdays).  Your Academy games will be played based on the PAL program and you will be required to travel outside of Wylie for these, based on schedules posted by the league in the fall (most games will be on Sundays).  If you have a "conflict" on a particular week, we recommend that you take your name off the Academy roster that week only and play with your rec-team.  This makes sure that our rec-teams aren't short their strong players.

Academy coaches will be working closely with our rec-team coaches on a weekly basis in each age group; most conflicts will be easily resolved.
  • Where can I get more information or talk to someone?

The WYSA Mutiny FC Soccer Committee and staff has a "MUTINY FC" menu off of the www.wyliesoccer.com main website where details, news, and other pertinent information will be posted as available.  We have also established an email address that goes to the core Committee Members for individual questions as needed.  We ask that you first read all of the materials provided on the web before sending in too many emails.  We will respond, please keep in mind that we are volunteers and have other work and family commitments.  To make this program as cost affective to our teams, parents, and players as possible, we do not have a crew of "paid" staff.  Please email us at wysa.comp@wyliesoccer.com
